Outline planning has been granted by North Dorset District Council for these two simplistic timber clad houses with a subterranean feel. The properties benefit from large areas of West facing glazing which open up onto private, sunken gardens. The split level design incorporates three bedrooms and Bathroom at the rear and a large open plan living area and kitchen with far reaching views across Deer Park. The glazing slides open to create an 'indoor outdoor' living space.
On approach the houses appear as low inclines of green roof that rise to around 2m above the existing ground level resulting in minimal impact to the neighbours.
The radial form of the architecture is simple and elegant with minimal impact on the IOWA. Externally the dwellings are simply clad in natural timber and minimally framed glazing. A Soft green roof designed to blend in with the landscape gives the house good sustainable credentials as well as creating a biodiverse habitat.
The CGI images represent the first initial designs submitted for Pre-Application. Subsequently the design evolved and was 'soften' with curved corners to reduce impact. This can be seen in the hand sketches.
