A charming traditional house with raised timber decks, Hooke, Dorset.
Located in the grounds of a field study centre and private school owned by the clients, this house in Hooke, West Dorset enabled them to live on site, yet retain essential privacy.
The delightful setting dictates that all rooms face south and have views with lots of outside living space through a stunning raised timber deck. The living space is on the first and second floors giving the best views and access to the raised platform. The office, visitor’s accommodation and reception room were placed at ground level.
The traditional new house is sympathetic with the nearby listed school. Natural materials were used. Conventional masonry walls were constructed from horizontal timber boarding over coursed random rubble. These produce relatively low key elevations facing the school whilst the other elevations are deliberately more striking and dramatic.
