Project Description

New stone vernacular house in the village of Horsington in Somerset.

This self-build replacement dwelling offered the chance to create a new, energy efficient and eco-friendly family home with a traditional though modest form with a subtle contemporary aesthetic to the detailing and finishes.

The detached house features a mix of local stone, predominantly Forest Marble / Stalbridge Stone with some Hamstone and Sherborne stone mixed through together with Bath Stone lintels over openings. The roof is finished in slate with contemporary aluminium window frames.

The new house takes full advantage of its location, offering long distance views to the countryside. The semi-open plan ground floor offers a great balance of fluidity yet distinction between the kitchen, living room and hallway. Most windows and doors are able to be fully opened allowing a fantastic connection between the inside and the outside. An open porch feature over the main entrance is yet to be constructed.
