A concept scheme for a state of the art subterranean music studio within the grounds of the clients home (also designed by WDA).
The client, from a prestigious musical background, wished to create a recording studio, both for the local community and as a destination venue where professionals could practice and record. It was important that the design did not inhibit the clients already established views across the Dorset countryside. For this reason, the leisure building was sunk into the hillside, with its own double height window out to the world. The mass of the surrounding earth naturally benefitted the scheme as a way of reducing noise pollution. Internally the performance space incorporated a balcony around the outer edge and the walls would be clad with internal acoustic panels.
