Project Description

Prominent mixed use development in West Bay, Dorset.

Highly visible site in the centre of town fronting the harbour and the beach. There are 45 apartments, a restaurant / cafe and a shop across three separate buildings. Parking is situated in underground.

The prominent corner is turned by a stone-faced, oval block, which forms the focal point for the junction of the harbour and beach. There is a long block facing the harbour, which uses heavy green-heart timbers to reflect the robust detailing of the piles on the harbour wall.

The centrepiece of the public open space contained within the development is a tear drop shaped 'folly' acting as a full stop to the view from the harbour. The Folly shares some of the design features of the main buildings such as the use of Green Heart timbers to reflect the character of the quayside but it is also a standalone building in its own right. This building featured in the police station in the BBC production 'Broadchurch'.
