As part of its core strategy, Purbeck District Council sought new housing sites throughout the district. Our clients wanted this site to be considered for inclusion in the core strategy as a preferred housing development site.
Western Design prepared a concept proposal for 125 houses and flats (40% affordable) to make best use of the site.
Houses were traditional with a contemporary twist (modern vernacular), laid out in a way that gives priority to pedestrians over cars. No roads were straight enough for cars to go more than 10 mph and parking would be largely hidden in courts. This proposal was displayed for public consultation in Swanage along with its rivals in 2010. Western Design was able to explain and discuss the scheme with members of the public. We are hopeful that this project will proceed in due course.
We subsequently gained outline approval for 50 house on this site.
