The Grade II listed Cottage was extended at both ends in the late 20th century using inappropriate off the shelf standard storm-proof type windows. A range of utility rooms, showers etc were built as a lean-to along the south side of the house, separating the living room from the garden. The gloomy principal living room required artificial throughout the whole day and a hideous unused conservatory on the south side completed the picture.
Western Design Architects scheme replaced the conservatory with a light and spacious timber extension linbking the kitchen dining space to the garden. The garden and patio were re-landscaped, the roof was re-thatched and the interior layout was re-modelled.
Awards: North Dorset District Council, LABC Building Excellence Awards 2014. Highly Commended in the 'Best Extension or Alteration' category.
