Old Calf House Wine Shop

Attractive barn conversion to wine shop in Tarrant Hinton, Dorset
Location Tarrant Hinton, Dorset
Status Built
Use Commercial
Client Tarhinton Farms Ltd

The barn was one of the final farm buildings to be converted as part of a larger previous farm diversification strategy, to create a business park in Tarrant Hinton. The dilapidated building was vacant and had not been used as part of the farm for some time. It was in a poor condition with much of the roof missing due to bad weather.

This exciting project saw the old calf house beautifully and sensitively converted into a commercial wine shop and bar with outdoor seating. A change of use from Agriculture to Retail A1 was required as part of the planning process.

Traditional agricultural materials

The external walls were rebuilt from brick and flint to reflect materials used around the business park. New openings were created with painted timber windows and doors in an agricultural aesthetic to match the historic farm buildings.

Internally the old calf shed features a double height space, with exposed timber beams and exposed brickwork, creating a traditional and inviting feel to the shop, enhanced by the addition of a log burner.
