Western Design Architects are pleased to announce that the redevelopment of the former White Hart site at Eastgate in Dorchester has been awarded the inaugural Derek Beauchamp Design Award by the Dorchester Civic Society.
The award arose from the Society’s wish to do something to publicly acknowledge Derek Beauchamp’s long contribution to the life and work of the Society, and the award scheme aims to ‘stimulate interest in the quality of Dorchester’s built and natural environment by recognising schemes that enhance its character and townscape.’ Following a public vote, the Society selected the Eastgate scheme as the unanimous winner out of 30 shortlisted buildings, stating that the project ‘creates a memorable gateway to the centre of Dorchester’ and that the ‘design reflects a thoughtful analysis of the site and its surroundings…a most worthy winner’.
The award was presented to Metis Homes, Western Design and the contracting team by Mrs Sarah Beauchamp and Mr Peter Mann of the Society. The evening was also attended by the Mayor of Dorchester, Councillor Susie Hosford.
