We love this design for new modern vernacular homes aimed to promote a sustainable approach to housing and community design.
East Dorset District Council currently located at Furzehill, Wimborne are set to relocate as part of a larger scale merger with neighbouring councils.
Western Design Architects (WDA) were asked to devise a number or options and masterplans for the site for residential use.
The landscape strategy was key to this design; the houses are arranged around pockets of secluded courtyards, interlinked by pathways of green open space. The houses have a feeling of enclosure and community. A green corridor of public open space enhances biodiversity and ecology and links the new residential development to the village.
The contemporary scheme is composed from a concise and simple pallette of traditional materials that have a contemporary feel. The layout allows each home to benefit from south and west facing gardens with good views.
The developers however were not succsessful in obtaining the land. We hope another oppotunity will arise to delevop a scheme with a similar aesthetic.
