Design for a new crematorium in Wales

To celebrate St David’s Day we are delighted to share our new design for a crematorium in Powys, Wales which is currently in planning.

The design for this was influenced by the heritage of the local area. The form of the building pays homage to the adjacent Gwyn Fynydd Camp, a prehistoric settlement enclosed by counterscarps that open up to the southerly views. These counterscarps are replicated through the use of grass berms which allow the whole building to nestle within the sensitive landscape.

The materiality and massing are empathetic towards the functions of the chapels, allowing congregations to move through the building and landscape with ease and comfort.
