Project Revisit: A contemporary home in a heritage setting

Flintstones, a contemporary home on a sloping site near listed buildings, was recently placed on the market. WDA enjoyed the opportunity to review this intriguing house that we designed over a decade ago.

Located in the village of Winterbourne Whitechurch, Dorset, and adjoining the designated Conservation Area, the site is subject to a number of significant constraints. These include its position within the garden setting of Grade II listed thatched cottages and its close proximity to the Grade I listed Church of St Mary. The site, formerly a chalk quarry, is also characterised by a steeply sloping topography, further adding to its complexity and necessitating a carefully considered architectural response.
