WDA designed a new community sports centre to serve this small market town and local schools. The environment had to be friendly, comfortable and not intimidating to encourage local people to exercise and get fit. This is run by the community of Sturminster Newton.
The brief was to provide a low cost building which could be erected quickly, would provide multiple facilities to allow for a wide range of leisure and community activities.
The centre, now called the Stur Fit community leisure centre, can be used for a variety of community, social and commercial activities. These include meetings, conferences, classes, clubs, sports activities, dance classes, martial arts classes and various parties.
There is full access throughout the building for users with physical disabilities including a lift.
This building is notable for having been designed by WDA in a matter of days, due to a sudden looming deadline on the availability of government money.
Our proposals were then approved by special planning committee within two weeks of the application being submitted.
