Shroton House revisited
There is something particularly rewarding about returning to a completed project years later. Seeing a building settle into its surroundings and become part of the landscape is one of the most satisfying aspects of architecture. Being reappointed by our clients to design the next addition to their historic garden made this visit even more special.
We recently revisited Shroton House, a Grade II listed home where we previously designed a new pool house, swimming pool and potting shed within the historic walled garden. Now enveloped by mature planting, the buildings feel as though they have always belonged, demonstrating how thoughtful, sensitive design can enhance a historic setting without competing with it.
It was a pleasure to see how the gardens have flourished and how the restored landscape now complements the architecture, creating a series of tranquil spaces that are both practical and beautiful.
Following the success of the original scheme, we are delighted to have been appointed once again by the owners to design a substantial new traditional greenhouse within the listed walled garden. Carefully detailed to respect the site’s heritage, the greenhouse will provide a dedicated space for cultivating plants while reinforcing the historic character of the garden.
