Barn Conversions

Revealing hidden potential

Redundant barns and agricultural buildings offer huge potential for new commercial opportunities in desirable rural locations.

A barn that is in the wrong place, falling down, too small for today’s farming practices or surplus to requirements, can be sensitively re-purposed and transformed into valuable new premises.

Many farmers see diversification as vital to the financial viability of the farm. The conversion of barns into holiday lets, offices, shops, restaurants and business parks allows a new source of income when finances are under pressure.

62% of UK farms have diversified, according to Defra’s Farm Business Survey

We have a proven track record in farm diversification and have transformed a wide variety of redundant farm buildings into very successful alternative uses. In some circumstances Class Q prior approval legislation provides a fast track route for converting redundant barns to residential use. See our Class Q sector for further details.

Flexible commercial uses can be provided in former agricultural buildings using a process similar to the Class Q route, converting buildings using your Permitted Developments Rights. Such uses include shops, financial services, cafes and leisure.

Our talented team specialise in high-quality sustainable design and are experienced in converting older and listed barns. Importantly we retain the building’s integrity and individual character, while cleverly combining contemporary elegance.

Due to ever changing planning legislation, diversification of farm assets is now easier than ever before!
