New oak framed extension hits the right note for a pianist

Our client came to us wishing to create a modest extension to their attractive, two storey Wiltshire home, providing a dedicated space for their grand piano.

The design incorporates large amounts of glazing to have a strong connection to the garden and views. At the same time, it was pivotal that the piano was protected both from UV radiation and maintained a steady temperature.

Following consultation with glazing manufacturers, we incorporated solar control glazing in the project. This reflects the sun’s heat and a laminated interlayer effectively blocks harmful UV from entering the room. The overhang also blocks direct sunlight from the south, at the hottest periods of the day.

Dorset Timber Framing Ltd did a fantastic job with the construction of the extension, executing our design for the oak timber frame with a direct glazing system, to great effect.
