The final proposal was preceded by detailed pre-application discussions with the planning department. In accordance with Conservation Area guidance, the extension adopts a palette of red brick and pebbledash to match the existing dwelling. A contemporary architectural language is introduced through refined brick detailing and an increased use of glazing, creating a clear yet sympathetic distinction between the original building and the new addition. This approach respects the scale, proportions, massing, and character of the host dwelling while ensuring the extension is read as a high-quality contemporary intervention.

Other works include refurbishment of the existing house, improved porch, replacement garage, outdoor swimming pool, new garden outbuilding and improved front entrance gates, changing the previously solid timber boarding to open style metal gates. Together with new tree and hedge planting along the site boundaries, these enhancements will positively contribute to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area. The development also incorporates sustainable measures, including solar panels and air source heat pumps, improving the building’s energy performance. Collectively, these works will secure the long-term viability of the property while adapting it to meet contemporary living standards.
