Site Progress – Swanage housing development

It’s great to see steady progress being made on the construction of our latest housing development on the former St Mary’s School site.

Located within the Swanage Conservation Area, this development includes 20 new houses and 10 apartments in a prime Dorset coastal location. The site sits above High Street and Swanage Methodist Church, offering excellent views and bordered by a historic Purbeck stone wall.

Previously St Mary’s School, the site has been carefully redeveloped. Part of the original school building has been remodelled and extended to create modern apartments that combine heritage features with contemporary design. New houses have been built alongside, designed to fit the natural slope of the land, creating a cohesive and natural streetscape.

The architecture draws from Swanage’s traditional style, using local materials like Purbeck stone, timber, and brickwork. Varied slate and clay-tile roofs add character and reflect the coastal setting.

This project balances respect for the historic surroundings with modern living needs, delivering homes that are both stylish and sensitive to their environment.
