We are thrilled to see St James’s Cottage, a thatched Grade II listed cob cottage in Milton Abbas nearing completion after extensive work.
The owners have invested a great deal of time, care, and effort on the restoration and extension of this historic property, making it into a truly fabulous home. The builders, CPC Building Contractors, took on this challenging renovation project and through their hard work brought it very close to completion, just in time for the Milton Abbas Street Fair in July 2025.
The clients bold decorating and design choices have breathed exciting new life into the run down interiors.
The fabric and structure of the house was in very poor condition when the new owners purchased it. Thanks to the team effort of the owners, the builders and Western Design Architects, the future of the building is secure. This project is an excellent example of Conservation Architecture, carefully balancing the preservation of historic fabric with the needs of modern day living.
One particularly intriguing discovery during the renovation was a mummified cat found in the roof, a historic practice believed to ward off evil spirits. You can read the full story here.
We are very much looking forward to seeing the finished results soon!
