This early 20^th Century style sought to eliminate right angles in favour of flowing lines that echoed the natural movement of the human body. The house is a total work of art from the undulating eaves lines to the sculpted door surrounds, and bespoke interior features.

Sadly, through subsequent internal works to the house, unsympathetic late 20^th Century additions and the severing of the original plot, leading to a relocated front driveway entrance, the original Steiner features and philosophy were at risk of being diluted or lost.

As Architects, we were deeply interested in the whole philosophy behind the house design, and even took the time to visit the headquarters of the Anthroposophical movement in Switzerland, the Goetheanum (by Rudolph Steiner), and its surroundings, to familiarise ourselves with this unique design approach.

The results of this research and attention to this particular style have led to our proposal for a complementary extension to this house, which has now been approved by Dorset Council.
